Time Passes and Requirements Change

The QMS is progressing.  All of the basic items are in place, but the details are slowly being filled in.  What Now?

Well, I also have a basic Puzzle functioning on Android. However, I gave it to my kids and they suggested improvements.  They wanted to like it, they tried to play with it, but the first question Nicole asked  was “Why doesn’t it work Daddy?” –  It was not that the software did not work, it was she did not understand how to make the game work without instruction.  The good news is all is not wasted.

For Example, I have learned important lessons.

1) “Press Any Key To Continue” – Is not a concept that kids understand.  Nicole asked – “Why does the ball not move when I touch it?”  She was actually dragging the ball as I would have hoped, but had not pressed start before she actually started.

2) Shapes and items that are greyed out have no meaning.  – This apparently is a learned behavior from the modern UI.  Since the kids have not used a modern OS, then “greying out” a button just frustrates her when she tries to interact with the shape.  We need to increase the intrinsic value for a 2 year old.  It needs to do something or be more meaning.

Things that have passed as “good ideas”

1) Bubbles that POP, and make noise or disappear

2) Stars, Sounds, and other “rewards” that are given after the puzzle is solved.

However, I am now at a good spot.  I am going to use my stories and templates to continue to revise the requirements.  Now I feel that I need 3 levels

1) Popping bubbles.

2) Solving a Puzzle (moving a Spoon to a Bowl)

3) Creating a Puzzle from a Picture taken with the devices camera.  Afterwards, the puzzle can be solved like the Bowl/Spoon problem above.

4) Shapes! – Use Shapes to create a image such as a house or a boat.

Once again, I believe the I have defined my minimal product.  Kid testing will determine if I am right.  Oddly enough,  It now seems that “Shapes” as part of the actual game, seem to a more advanced concept that I will have to work up to… at least for my Kids.

I actually went back a reread my site today.  It seems that my original requirements are still where I should be heading.  My plans are to publish those first, then continue rounding out the offering with added content.
